The Basics
Mold is a fungus that reproduces by releasing tiny spores into the air. Spores are everywhere indoors and outdoors. Mold becomes a problem when it lands on damp materials and begins to grow.
Why Mold Grows Indoors
- Leaks from roofs, pipes, or appliances
- High indoor humidity and poor ventilation
- Condensation on cold surfaces
- Flooding or water intrusion
- Wet materials that do not dry quickly
Common Signs
What You See
- Black, green, or white spots on surfaces

What You Smell

- Damp smells that return quickly
- Odors strongest in closets or behind furniture
Health Effects (General)
